Jerusalem

The enchanted city of Jerusalem is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Many days will take to discover its unforgettable beauty and special atmosphere. Muslims and Christians has kept struggling for 'celestial rights' during the last 3000 years. The orthodox Jews that hurry home before shabes on Fridays, the thousands arabs worshippers that cram into 'El Aktza' mosque on fridays and Christians that carry the heavy cross through the Via Dolorosa on Sundays- all believe that Jerusalem is theirs! Touring the west (new) side of the city could start at the Israel Museum and the site of the Kenesset, heading east through the Rehavia neighborhood to Yemin Moshe, the German neighborhood and the Mishkanot Sha'ananim and back to the city center. The tour of the Old City begins at the ancient walls that surround the city, entering by the Jaffa Gate. Back to the Old City and through the Lion Gate to the Via Dolorosa, walking all the way through the colorful old market to the impressive Holy Sepulcher church.

Some of the most see sites in Jerusalem are:

Located in a beautiful restored fortress, the museum stands in the heart of Jerusalem at a point where the city's ancient history to the east meets the blossoming new city of Jerusalem to the west. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Tower of David Museum also houses temporary exhibitions that approached Jerusalem's history and culture in original and innovating ways.

Ammunition Hill- an impressive memorial site to the soldiers killed in the Six Day War.

Yad VaShem- The Jewish people's memorial to the murdered Six Million in the Holocaust, containing the world's largest repository of information on the holocaust.

It is also said to contain the place where Jesus was reportedly buried, the sepulcher, a burial chamber. Pilgrims and Crusaders believed the site to be the literal center of the earth, based on various biblical references.

The Israel Museum
Established more than 40 years ago in 1965, the Israel Museum is considered a world class museum with wide-ranging collections including displays of prehistoric archaeology through contemporary art and with a constantly rotating roster of temporary exhibitions, publications and educational activities. The museum is the leading cultural institution in Israel and is one of the largest museums of its kind in the world, despite its relative youth. Located in central Jerusalem, with a terraced complex that includes the museum's galleries, Shrine of the Book and the six-acre Sculpture Garden, the museum compound comprises nearly 50,000 square meters and attracts over 950,000 visitors each year, about a third of them international tourists and including nearly 100,000 children in the educational programs at the Youth Wing. As Jerusalem and Israel's leading cultural institution, the Israel Museum is committed to preserving, studying and displaying its collections of nearly 500,000 objects of fine art, archaeology, ethnography and Judaica, representing the history of world culture The Israel Museum is divided into four major collections, in addition to the Shrine of the Book and Art Garden. The Archaeology Collection is centered around the history of the Holy Land, both the historical realities and the centrality of three faiths – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – to the land. The collection displays the centrality of these themes, with an enormous compilation of objects, starting with the prehistoric era, into the Chalcolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages, into the Persian and Second Temple Periods, delving into Roman and Byzantine archaeology, and onto Islamic archaeology. With a look at neighboring cultures and a serious concentration in coin collections through the ages, the museum's archeology section is an education in history

Yad Vashem the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, was established in 1953 with the goal of documenting the history of the six million victims, and educating the generations to come about the Jewish tragedy through the institution's archives, library, school and museums.

Located on Jerusalem's Mount of Remembrance, Yad Vashem is a sprawling complex of museums, exhibits, archives, monuments, sculptures, and memorials. In 2005, the entire compound was expanded and renovated, including the new Holocaust History Museum, the Art Museum displaying an extensive collection of Holocaust-related art and a new section for temporary exhibits. A new entrance plaza and orientation buildings were added to prepare visitors for their entry into the Yad Vashem experience. The institution has also added a host of new materials and collections, including documents from Europe, videotaped interviews with Holocaust survivors; rare artifacts retained by the generation that lived through these events; and recording the names of all those who perished, all housed in the new archive building. Special conferences and colloquia take place on a regular basis at Yad Vashem. In addition, concerts and memorial ceremonies are held in the Valley of the Communities, museum auditorium and other locations on the Yad Vashem site. The institution's annual ceremonies include Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day and Victory in Europe (VE) day, both being held on DATES this year. (need dates!!!!!!!) Entrance to Yad Vashem is free. Organized groups planning their visit through an agent or escort must coordinate their visit to Yad Vashem in advance. Details on how to reserve and coordinate the visit may be found at the Yad Vashem web-site. Tour guides or audio-guides are offered to groups and individuals for a fee.
