5000 years ago Jaffa was already a flourishing city. The cedar trees from Lebanon for the temple were unloaded in the port, later Judea the Maccabi set anchored in the port, were Salah-a-Din fought Richard the Lion Heart and his crusaders. Napoleon the Great made Jaffa his base and the first experience of all pilgrims, sailors and immigrants to Promised Land was the port of Jaffa. Jaffa is one of the oldest cities in the world and touring the old city is the a true experience. It starts in the Clock Square built for the Sultan, climbs to the impressive archeological site, goes down to the old port with its unique smell, galleries, boats and restaurants. After a break, ascending to the garden and descending to the lively colorful Flea Market. |

The wall that guarded the ancient port city of Ashkelon was 2 kilometers long, 30 meters high and 40 meters wide. No wonder the Canaanites, the Phillistine, the Persians, the Romans, the greeks, the Byzantines, the Muslims and the Crusaders all tried to conquer this important city. Holding it meant controlling the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Touring the national park, looking at the Philistine wall, the Roman decorated columns and the sacrificial temples give a glimpse on the impressive past of the city. |

The land of Hirbet Duran was bought by at 1890 by Hankin who sold it to pioneers in Russia before the made aliya. After the oranges and vineyards began to bear fruit the came, insisting on speaking only Hebrew and employing Jewish workers. They built the Ziv institute and gave land to groups of pioneers who were prepared to found new kibbutzim.
